APS certificate — Akademische Prüfstelle India procedure

§1 — APS BACKGROUND + WHO NEEDS IT (90-110 words)

  4. Bachelor's marksheet (semester-wise + consolidated) + degree certificate

  6. Medium of instruction certificate (esp. if non-English Indian medium)
  7. English proficiency proof (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo if accepted by target university) OR German proficiency
  8. CV / resume in English
  9. Migration certificate (if applicable, post UG)
  10. Statement of purpose draft (some cases)
  11. German university Zulassungsbescheid OR list of target universities
  12. Photograph (passport format)
Original photographs should be high-resolution color scans. All non-English documents need English translation.

§3 — INSTITUTION RECOGNITION + EQUIVALENCE (80-100 words)
APS cross-checks [INSTITUTION] against anabin database (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen). Status:
  • H+ — institution recognized; degree directly equivalent
  • H+/- — institution recognized but specific degree may need conditions
  • H- — institution NOT recognized; degree not equivalent
  • H+/+ — fully recognized
Most UGC-listed Indian universities are H+. AICTE-recognized engineering institutions: H+. Private deemed universities: case-by-case. For [INSTITUTION]: verify status before APS application — H- institution = APS will not certify equivalence.

§4 — INTERVIEW (IF REQUIRED) (70-90 words)
Two tracks:

§5 — FEE + PROCESSING (50-70 words)
Fee: EUR 50 + bank transaction charges (typically paid via VFS / Indian-bank wire to German Embassy account); fee non-refundable. Processing:
  • Document review: 4-6 weeks (extending to 8-12 weeks in peak season Mar-Aug)
  • Interview track: add 2-4 weeks for scheduling
  • Certificate issued by email + courier
Certificate is valid indefinitely + reusable across multiple visa applications.

§6 — POST-CERTIFICATE WORKFLOW (50-70 words)
With APS certificate in hand:
  • Apply to German universities (most accept APS as proof of credentials)
  • Receive Zulassungsbescheid
  • Open Sperrkonto
  • Book consulate appointment via VFS Germany India
  • Submit visa application with APS + Zulassung + Sperrkonto + insurance + photos
APS certificate must be presented at visa application; verify it has not been revoked or amended.
